Bruce Henry & the Bruce Henry Jazz Ensemble in
Afro Blue: The Drum, The
Journey, The Song
Take a fascinating
musical journey exploring African drums, spirituals, jazz and the Great
American Songbook in Bruce Henry’s upcoming Legends concert, Afro Blue: The Drum, The Journey, The Song, at 7 p.m. Saturday February 7, and 3 p.m. Sunday, February 8. Tickets are $25,
or $20 each for groups of 10, and are available at thecapritheater.org or
TicketWorks at 612-343-3390.
“There’s a very strong
and undeniable link between the African drum, spirituals and jazz,” says Henry.
“In this concert we tie those elements together to present an evening of
exciting and diverse music and history.”
Bruce Henry has an
astounding three-octave range, and a pure and versatile voice that few can
match. His musical influences include legends such as John Coltrane, Leon
Thomas, Al Jarreau, Nina Simone and Marvin Gaye. He’s sung across the U.S. and
on four continents. His travel experiences inform his music and will be
especially apparent when he presents Afro Blue at the Capri with his jazz
ensemble.
“We’re so excited to
welcome this great artist and friend to Legends and the Capri,” says Dennis
Spears, Artistic Director for the series. “Come and be inspired!”
Bruce Henry and his
jazz ensemble will shine in the intimate setting of the Capri Theater, the Twin
Cities’ “Best Jazz Venue” and home to this jazz series since 2007.
The Capri Theater is
owned and operated by Plymouth Christian Youth Center (PCYC), 2210 Oliver Ave.
