Don’t miss the 5th Annual Spring Art Party at Folwell Park
By: Connie Beckers 06/01/2008
Join us Saturday, June 7 at Folwell Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to celebrate the rich multi-cultural arts of our community. Fine arts and craft artisans with original handmade artwork, many of them your neighbors, will be showing and selling their work. Several community organizations like North Minneapolis Meals on Wheels and Highpoint Center for Printmaking will be on hand with their information and a free art-making activity. Daina DePrez returns to coordinate the musical performances which include DePrez, Camden Music School, the Mark Yannie Jazz Trio, Felonious Bosch, Big Surf and Machinery Hill. Spoken word artists coordinated by Tish Jones will perform throughout the day and the Sahabti Belly Dancers return for another spectacular performance! Storytelling will be happening all day throughout the park with the Black Storytellers Alliance, David Zander and Story Safaris and Naima Richmond. Antiques in the Park, sponsored by the Webber-Camden Neighborhood Organization, will be providing two free antique appraisals per person between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Spring Art Party is sponsored this year by the Folwell Neighborhood Association and the Northwest Business Association, in partnership with the Mpls Park & Rec Board. The Spring Art Party is made possible, in part, by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council through an appropriation by the MN Legislature.
Volunteers are needed to help with last minute preparation (sign placement, flyers, etc) before the event and there are a number of opportunities available on the day of the event. Contact Northside Arts Collective Volunteer Coordinator Denise Dumas at dmdumas3@msn.com or 612-209-9369 to help.
The Spring Art Party continues to be the Northside’s premiere arts event showcasing the diverse talents of our community. We hope to see you there!
