A Valentine for music lovers
02/01/2010
The Capri Theater's Legends series has a special treat for lovers and music lovers on Saturday, February 13 with They'll Say We're in Love. "We're going to offer a romantic evening with a late-night vibe," says Capri Theater Artistic Associate Dennis Spears, who produces the Legends series. The song list at the Capri includes Lush Life, Lucky So and So, and of course My Funny Valentine. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25; order at thecapritheater.org or OvationTix at 866-8111-4111.
The concert stars three of the Twin Cities' leading talents. T. Mychael Rambo wowed audiences as the steamy Dryer in Caroline, or Change at the Guthrie Theater in 2009. Regina Williams' Dinah Was, a tribute to Dinah Washington, ran at the Ordway and Penumbra Theaters. Thomasina Petrus played Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill at Park Square Theater.
"All three of these performers are outstanding actors as well as fabulous vocalists," Spears says. "One of the hallmarks of the Legends series is that it combines music with theater. The sets, the costumes and the lighting all support the musical performances."
Special touches make They'll Say We're in Love the perfect "date night" for Valentine's Day. Show your special someone how sweet love can be with an individual-sized sweet potato pie, served with coffee, both before and after the concert. Looking for a Valentine's Day gift? CD's by Legends performers will be available for purchase in the lobby. The Capri Theater is located at 2027 West Broadway.
