The Warren was host to guest theatre company Savage Umbrella for its workshop production of A Christmas Carol Finale on the Workhouse Theatre Stage on December 14, 15 and 16. Music, score and book were written by Ben Mattson with Laura Leffler-McCabe, and starred Blake E. Bolan, Anna Carol, Todd Janssen, Mike Kelley, Robert Larsen, Katie Melby and Ben Mattson, with Daniel Sadowsky on the piano. The show was a success with its dark humor and its take on the difficulties of leading a moral life in contemporary society.
Second Saturdays presents ... a Camden Choral Collaboration
Two Camden neighborhood choral ensembles – the United Deliverance Temple Mass Choir and the Camden Community Choir – invite you for an hour of eclectic, bright and stirring music on Saturday, January 12 from 3 to 4 p.m. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 3751 Sheridan.
The 18 member UDT choir, directed by Bretta Alexander, performs traditional and contemporary gospel music selections accompanied by Tom West on piano, Cecil Nelson on bass and Barry Alexander, Jr. on drums.
The new, 8-member Camden Community Choir, under the direction of Jaette Carpenter, performs pop, folk and classical music from their steadily growing repertoire. Joan Carey and Carpenter accompany the group on piano. (Note: The CCChoir is accepting new members this winter.)
The concert culminates with the two choirs in a joint performance of Dry Your Tears, Afrika, composed by John Williams for the film, Amistad. Alexander directs the ensemble, accompanied by Chico Perez on hand drums and Carey on piano.
A reception featuring good cookies, coffee and conversation follows the concert. The event is free, though donations are accepted for the CMS Scholarship Fund and the UDT choir. Both choirs have thoroughly enjoyed rehearsing together and look forward to presenting their music to you. Come hear this Camden choral collaboration cook!
