Artist Roundtable is a monthly opportunity for creatives!
By: Jeanne Fish 10/01/2012
The Northside Arts Collective is committed to bring to our membership and the community opportunities to learn from others and explore new areas for creative outlets. One regular feature has been our Artist Roundtable series that features a presentation with time for discussion. The roundtables are regularly scheduled for the third Monday of each month, starting at 6:30 p.m. and planned to engage our local artists and art-enthusiasts. Small business owners may also find our sessions to be of value. You don’t need to be an artist or a member of the Northside Arts Collective to participate! We need to have a minimum of five participants or the session will be cancelled — so RSVP info@nacarts.org! We do ask for $5 (suggested donation) per session. Visit nacarts.org for our complete calendar of Artist Roundtable sessions, just click on the “Artist Roundtable” menu tab.
October’s Artist Roundtable will be held once again at Folwell Park & Rec building, starting at 6:30 p.m. This month’s topic “Web Hosting & Build Out for Artists Using WordPress” will be presented by Jeanne Fish, NAC’s Communications Coordinator, owner of Fishson Graphics + Communications and partner in Trésis, LLC.
WordPress is currently the most popular blogging system in use on the Internet. WordPress is a free, web-based software program that anyone can use to build and maintain a website or blog. It was originally intended as an easy way to set up a blog. But, thanks to the efforts of a large “open source” community of WordPress programmers working to extend and improve its capabilities, WordPress has become much more than just a tool for bloggers. Indeed, many of the websites you visit are WordPress sites.
Jeanne will cover the basics: Free vs. hosted site; what to look for in a web host and selecting hosting package; what is WordPress and how to select a WordPress theme that suits your needs; organizing your content for your website; selecting a template for your page or post; how to set up your menu; adding images and other media; and Widgets & Plugins - a brief overview. Remember to RSVP for this session — jeanne.fish@nacARTS.org or www.nacARTS.org!
