The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra (SPCO) and the Capri Theater will present three free chamber music concerts in North Minneapolis during the 2010-11 performance season at the Capri, 2027 West Broadway. The first concert at 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, features SPCO musicians performing Beethoven's Serenade in D for Flute, Mozart's Stadler Quintet and Elliott Carter's Esprit rude/Esprit doux for Flute and Clarinet. The other two concerts are set for 8 p.m. Saturday, March 26, and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21.

While the tickets are free, they must be reserved in advance at www.thecapritheater.org or 612-643-2050. Reservations will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis, until the 250-seat venue reaches capacity. Reservations will be redeemed into assigned seating at the Capri Theater's ticket desk in the lobby starting 6 p.m. the night of the concert.

These concerts are made possible through a grant from the Minnesota State Art Board through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund.

"We're extremely excited to be partnering with the Capri Theater on these concerts," said Sarah Lutman, president and managing director of the SPCO.  "Making our music as accessible as possible to the Twin Cities is something we continually strive for.  We are not currently bringing our concerts to the North Minneapolis neighborhood, and we are pleased to be able to perform at the beautifully renovated Capri Theater through this partnership."

"These performances by musicians of the SPCO mark a very important milestone in the Plymouth Christian Youth Center's development of the Capri Theater along West Broadway in North Minneapolis," said the theater's director Karl Reichert. "Since we completed our first phase of renovations in 2009, we have been striving to make the Capri accessible for a diverse array of performing arts. The addition of classical chamber music concerts performed by some of the world's best musicians is a thrill for us ... and real boost to our efforts to serve the Northside of Minneapolis and demonstrate the versatility of the Capri as a venue."
