“As Much Fun As You Can Have With Your Elbows!”
03/01/2008
Enjoy some swingin’ jazz music – and rub elbows with lots of good people for a good cause. It’s a FUNdraising concert for the Camden Music School (CMS) Scholarship Fund, featuring one of the hottest singers on the Twin Cities jazz scene, Christine Rosholt, on Saturday, March 8 from 3-4 p.m. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 3751 Sheridan Ave. The concert is free, though donations are encouraged. Christine Rosholt’s jazz career began in 2002 and she’s been charming audiences throughout the metro and around the country ever since. Most recently she recorded a live CD during a two-night stand at the Dakota Jazz Club in downtown Minneapolis. Last summer she performed at Birdland in New York City, and shared the bill with Tony Bennett at the Minnesota Orchestra’s Symphony Ball.
Rosholt is inspired by Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae, Diana Krall, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Joni Mitchell and The Roches, among others. And, she says, “I especially like the jazz standards from the 1930s and ‘40s because they’re timeless, they swing, and they’re sentimental without being syrupy.” Rosholt will be accompanied at the CMS concert by three highly regarded Twin Cities jazz cats: Tanner Taylor on piano, Graydon Peterson on bass and Mac Santiago on drums. In addition to enjoying this delicious musical treat, be sure to visit Rix, Steamworks Coffee, and Papa’s Pizza and Pasta on March 8. They will generously donate 15 percent of your purchases to the CMS Scholarship Fund when you present an event invitation or concert program at the door. This offer is good all day Saturday, March 8 only. (Invitations and more info at www.camdenmusicschool.com). Tax deductible donations are also accepted online at the CMS website. The entire event is a sponsored project of Our Neighborhood Works.
It’s going to be a great day in the neighborhood, with elbowroom for all. Don’t miss it!
