Amy’s ARTickler amusing your inner artist into action
By: Amy Egenberger 07/01/2010
"Sometimes small is big." My inner saboteur can sure take the fun out of being an artist! One of the tricks he plays on me (I say "he" because an image of the Tasmanian Devil character comes to mind; I actually dubbed him "TazAmya" because he zaps me cold) is to tell me that I need a big chunk of time to do my art. Really? Well, I find that doing something fun and small tickles my creative self into action. Here's one idea I've tried with success.
Make a small collage. Take five minutes to pull small inspiring images and words out of a few magazines. Really. Set the timer and you'll see that there is plenty of time. The quicker the better so that your logic-brain doesn't have a chance to slow you down with all that thinking! Then, trim them up, arrange them as you like, and glue them on a 5x7-inch card. Put it somewhere to remind you that art-fun doesn't have to take a long time.
What small piece of artwork could you do? I challenge you to tickle yourself into it... just for the fun of it.
