Love and Fear, a choral forum on racism
03/01/2008
The Saint Paul Vocal Forum, a 34-voice choir directed by David Ryan Moberg, presents Fear and Love, another in its series of its “choral forums” on Sunday, March 2, 4 p.m. at the Capri Theater, 2027 West Broadway. The concert focuses on the topics of fear, as the underlying impetus for hatred and racism, and love, as the antidote to fear.
The choir is collaborating with spoken word artist LaTisha Jones, who will perform her own poetry and performance pieces throughout the program.
“I was compelled to go ahead with the topic of racism mostly because of so much evidence of either outright racism or ethnic tension in the news,” stated Moberg. “In the end, we hope we will have added to people’s understanding of each other in the hopes of moving a little closer to peace in our world.”
Music includes works from a wide spectrum of styles and eras including Lewis Allan, Pablo Casals, Bob Chilcott, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Giuseppe Verdi and Eric Whitacre. The performance is free and open to the public, donations accepted. For info visit saintpaulvocalforum.org or call 651-270-0990.
