Second Saturdays presents Doreen Johnson and the Northern Latitudes Mandolin Quartet
By: Staff 04/01/2007
Camden Music School invites you to a delicious mix of musical performances on Saturday, March 10 from 3-4 p.m. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 3751 Sheridan Avenue N.
Singer/songwriter Doreen Johnson’s music expresses the emotive and heartfelt transformative power of her life’s journey. You will feel that power as she performs several original songs including FireStar, Mystery Caller and River Dreams. Doreen graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in piano. She taught high school band early in her career, really found her heart for writing songs in 2002, and is now in the process of creating her first CD.
The Northern Latitudes Mandolin Quartet creates a fascinating ensemble sound on acoustic mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, mandocello and guitar. Their repertoire includes everything from modern pop arrangements to classical pieces and traditional folk music. In addition, for this concert, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, the group will play historic compositions by the Irish harpist Turlough O’Carolan. NLMQ members are Lon Hendricks, Tom Hennum, James Holdman and Tedd Ronning.
The hour-long concert will be followed by a reception featuring good cookies, coffee and conversation. Second Saturdays concerts are free, though donations will be accepted for the CMS Scholarship Fund.
This is the first CMS Second Saturdays concert for 2007 – with concerts scheduled the second Saturday of every month for the rest of the year. Mark your calendars and keep your eyes peeled for info on more great concerts – right here in the neighborhood!
