Northside Arts Collective what’s up
By: Robert Johnson 03/01/2014
The Northside Arts Collective (NAC) is coming up on its 10th year as a nonprofit organization and proud to support all the artists and art activities which have connections to the Northside. It may come to a surprise to some, but Camden and the entire Northside have a very high concentration of artists who call our community home. We have plenty of affordable housing, and ease and accessibility to get downtown and to other parts of the city. One of the greatest assets of NAC is our monthly e-newsletter to promote all of the artists and achievements of our community and our member artists.
Both NAC’s newsletter and website are going through a major overhaul allowing more ease of use and updating of artistic events and announcements within and by artists who call the Northside home. Go to nacarts.org to keep in touch and to sign up for our newsletter.
NAC is proud to have a partner in Heritage Park Senior Center who is host to quarterly themed visual art exhibits of members’ works. Heritage Park Senior Center, 1015 4th Ave. N, has a perfect exhibit space with a 1/8th mile corridor where we are exhibiting art. Used by its residents as a walking area, Heritage Park Center is also home to a branch of the YMCA and Courage Center in the middle of the building as well as a health clinic (branch of Neighborhood HealthSource) on the second level. Our exhibits are inspiring for both the residents and visitors of Heritage Park! Our current themed Landscapes show will continue to be viewable until March 10. The next exhibit coming up this spring is titled Color; we will announce the details of both the show and artists reception. Interested in exhibiting? Contact Christine.Williams@nacarts.org.
The Northside Drawing Coop meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at McKinley Community Center, 3300 Lyndale Ave. N. Questions? Call Matt at 612-275-9573. Bring your own material and drawing board. Cost is $10 (for the live model). Plan for four poses, including a one-hour pose.
Coming up this spring will be NAC’s 5th Spring Thing, a pot luck and community get together. We’ll have live music and all can bring an art-inspired dish to share! We are anticipating an early April date (typically on a Saturday).
