Come join us for an hour of beautiful music at a beautiful time of year! Second Saturdays at Camden Music School (CMS) presents Pavia Winds Woodwind Quintet, 4-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 3751 Sheridan N.
Back at CMS by popular demand, Pavia Winds is one of the Midwest's most exciting young chamber music ensembles. Formed in 2003 by musicians from area colleges and universities, the Twin Cities-based group explores a variety of repertoire for wind soloists with an increasing focus on contemporary music.
The May 8 program: Umoja (2003) by Valerie Coleman, Wind Quintet, Opus 43 (1922) by Carl Nielsen, Prelude and Fugue in G major by J.S. Bach, arr. Marsha Schweitzer and Suite Cantabile for Woodwind Quintet (2007) by Bill Douglas. Umoja is African, the Nielsen piece is Scandinavian, the Bach is German, and the Douglas is based on a variety of dances with ethnic influences.
Pavia Winds features Camden neighbor Justin Windschitl on bassoon, flutist Emily Sapa, oboeist Sarah Carmack, Gina Monge on French horn and Ryan Golden on clarinet.
As always, CMS will host a reception featuring good cookies, coffee and conversation following the concert. The event is free, though donations to the CMS Scholarship Fund will be accepted. Info: 612-618-0219, www.camdenmusicschool.com, or info@camdenmusicschool.com.
