Pavia Winds Woodwind Quintet performs June 1
05/01/2013
Come hear an hour of exhilarating classical music performed by Pavia Winds Woodwind Quintet, one of the Midwest’s most exciting young chamber music ensembles, on Saturday, June 1, 4 p.m. at Camden Music School (CMS), 3751 Sheridan Ave. N (Luther Memorial Lutheran Church). The concert is free and open to the public.
Pavia Winds returns to Camden Music School for the fifth time, thanks in part to the fact that CMS Director Janet Zahn and Pavia bassoonist Justin Windschitl are almost-next-door Camden neighbors. “Sometimes when I walk by Justin’s house I hear him practicing beautiful, amazing music. I’m so lucky to have him as my neighbor and am grateful that he’s helped CMS make an enduring connection to this wonderful woodwind quintet,” said Zahn.
The other ensemble members are Erica Bennett on flute, Sarah Carmack, oboe, Ryan Golden, clarinet and Gina Monge on horn.
Formed in 2005 by alumni from the University of Minnesota and St. Olaf College, the Twin Cities-based group is interested in exploring a variety of repertoire for wind soloists with an increasing focus on contemporary music. Pavia has worked with many local composers to premiere and record new works, and in 2012 premiered Timothy Takach’s “Kinetic” at Camden Music School.
Because woodwind quintet repertoire is a specialized genre of music, Pavia aspires to make this music accessible to all audiences by performing fun and varied programs. Pavia especially enjoys working with students to encourage enthusiasm for chamber music of all kinds.
Coffee, good cookies and conversation will be served after the concert. Admission is free, though donations will be accepted for Camden Music School’s scholarship fund. For info contact Janet Zahn at info@camdenmusicschool.com or 612-618-0219.
