Sanford Moore performs his “first loves” at the Capri
02/01/2009
When pianist Sanford Moore takes center stage at the Capri Theater on Saturday, February 7 at 7 p.m. he will be joined by three amazing singers whose talents reflect the range of music that serves as the foundation of his career: classical, jazz, blues, gospel, and musical theater.
The Capri Theater's Legends series pays tribute to Sanford Moore in this third concert of the 2008-09 Season with performances by singers Yolande Bruce, Tonia Hughes and Greta Oglesby.
Sanford says the musical performances in this concert represent the genres that are his "first loves." Actress and singer Greta Oglesby will join Sanford onstage covering tunes from both musical theater and classical genres. Yolande Bruce, who is a featured vocalist in Moore by Four, covers jazz and blues, and Tonia Hughes presents gospel.
As a composer, arranger, musical director and pianist, Moore's prolific career has included founding the internationally acclaimed vocal jazz ensemble, Moore by Four. He is currently director of the University of Minnesota Gospel Choir and is Minister of Music for Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.
Nationally and internationally, Sanford Moore has shared the stage with such jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae and Harry Connick, Jr. As a musical director he is well known for his work with the Guthrie, Penumbra and Mixed Blood theaters.
