Jamecia Bennett and her R&B band Pure Soul promise to raise the roof of the Capri Theater during their musical tribute to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin on Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m. "Spirit in the Dark: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin" is the first program in the second season of the "Legends" series at the Capri Theater, presented by Plymouth Christian Youth Center.
Bennet had the opportunity to perform with Aretha Franklin during the 1991 Grammy Awards. Aretha, Luther Vandross and Sounds of Blackness performed Power of Love during the awards show. "There is no one like Aretha Franklin," Jamecia says, "and I've wanted to present a tribute to her music for a long time. This show at the Capri Theater is a rare chance for me to do something to honor her."
Tickets are $25 ($20 for groups of 10 or more); available at 651-209-6799 or thecapritheater.org. The Capri Theater is at 2027 West Broadway.
