Yes! After over a year hiatus, the Workhouse Theatre Company (WTC) returns with live theatre at The Warren! WTC is producing a full stage theatrical production of Easter Standard, by Richard Greenberg, running March 28 thru April 13 at The Warren Artist Habitat, 4400 Osseo Road.
In Easter Standard a group of four upwardly mobile New Yorkers invite a homeless woman to spend the summer with them at a Hamptons beach house as they come to terms with their relationships and situations. The play is directed by Richard Jackson, and the cast includes Paul Rutledge, Lamar Jefferson, Lauren Wills, Gabriel Murphy, Danielle Krivinchuk and Kristen Mathisen. For specific dates, times, tickets etc., visit workhousetheatre.org or call 612-216-1583.
Join the Workhouse Theatre Company (WTC) for their Public Readings Series at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month through June at The Warren. Readings are currently new plays in development by established, locally produced playwrights. The most recent reading on February 11 was of Mic Weinblatt’s Father Figure, with moderated discussion by playwright-in-residence, Matthew Everett.
Future WTC Public Reading Series play selections will be culled from submissions to the new play development program: the Greenhouse Project. The Greenhouse Project will provide an opportunity for playwrights with ties to Minnesota to have their scripts evaluated for possible inclusion in the series. Scripts with particular promise might be chosen for a development workshop and potentially a full scale production by WTC. For eligibility and submission guidelines visit workhousetheatre.org/gp.htm.
New classes are now running on a regular basis! Workhouse Theatre Company returns to its educational roots offering theatre classes in Camden. Coming up: Shakespeare Comprehension for the Novice ($25) on March 1, from noon-3 p.m. at The Warren. Description: What did Shakespeare say? The English language is constantly on the move, and has moved a long way since his day. If you’re mystified by the thees and thous, and wonder why that 17-line speech has no punctuation whatsoever, this class is for you! Part history, part grammar lesson, part text analysis workshop, this session will help you understand and love the Bard. Bring a bag lunch. Instructor is Diane Mountford.
The Workhouse Theatre Company is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation. Donations are greatly appreciated to help offset the costs of everything they do, from workshops and readings to their award winning productions!
