Designer/builder Otogawa-Anschel, 1214 42nd Ave, recently held an open house. Pictured is one of the remodeled homes, at 3900 Russell, on the 2007 Remodelors Showcase. This whole-house remodel features a second-story addition and KT addition that turned a small 723 sq.-ft. home into a comfortable 1,500 sq.-ft. home. Employing a number of green building features like remnant granite, reclaimed tile, local FSC wood, eucalyptus flooring, heating and cooling system, steel roof and Pella triple pane windows, the home is more efficient, more comfortable and uses less water. Good Deal Restaurant, 1724 Lowry, opened a couple months ago with great Southeast Asian cuisine — and it really is a good deal. Owner Christopher Yang runs the family business along with the Good Deal Oriental Food store at 1800 Lowry. Open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., they offer lunch specials of two entrees w/fried rice or noodles for only $5.99. They have a vast menu, and they’re specialties include a whole roast duck for $13.95 and Pho, a unique noodle dish that’s hard to find in the Twin Cities. You’re guaranteed to find something you’ll enjoy. Dine in or take out, call 612-521-5663 or 612-287-1259. The grocery store is huge now - and it’s not just Oriental food - this is a full service grocery. Fresh fruit and veggies, fresh and frozen beef, chicken, sausage, fish (you can get a whole Tilapia fish for only $1.19 a pound!) Get all the basics - milk, eggs, cereal - this store has it all, including sundries like dish and laundry soap and even pots, pans and utensils. Again — a good deal — beats convenience store prices. The store also includes Yang Alterations, with clothing, jewelry and accessories for sale, and they do tailoring and design Hmong fashions.
