Save a step, save a dime, support the community
So you’ve made out your holiday gift list right? Gonna go to “the mall” to get that new video game or state-of-the-art cell phone for you’re sweetie for the holidays? That’s cool; go and fight the traffic, play bumper-car in the parking lots and waste your time in line for a piece of silicon. Ya, you’ll probably go to the mall anyway for specific items, but you can also do some shopping right here in Camden and save gas, money, time, lessen your global footprint, and support our community. Camden has a lot to offer — goods and services that are practical for everybody. You don’t have to go far (heck you can even walk) and with cheaper prices, gas, time and supporting our local community — it’s a win-win for everyone. Think local when doing your holiday shopping — use your imagination. Here are just a few ideas:
Food: who doesn’t love food? Pick up a gift certificate from a local restaurant like Papa’s — or put together a gift basket of good cheese and meat from Papa’s Deli. You can also put together a goodies basket from your local store.
Services: Think comfort – a gift certificate for total relaxation massage at Bodywise, or give yourself a break with a pet sitting service like Parrot Nannies. And make sure you’re looking great for the holidays by getting a great “do” at Hair Fair or Wilson’s Image. Give a gift certificate for an oil change at Northside Auto.
Nitty gritty: What guy doesn’t like a good tool for a present? Or put together a box of basics for newlyweds or new homeowners or for your significant other! Check out North End Hardware.
Give tickets to the Workhouse theatre or give a donation in someone’s name to a Camden nonprofit. Just about any Camden business will sell you a gift certificate — what better way to say you promote the community and the environment at the same time. Get practical!
BTW — Fremont Clinic has launched their new Family Planning Project, funded by the Minnesota Department of Health. Program staff is available for educational sessions and outreach activities with local organizations, fairs and groups. Contact Terra Carey at careyt@fremonthealth.org or 612-287-2420.
The Northwest Minneapolis Business Association (NWMBA) received an $8,000 CPED fund again this year to help connect business owners, keep them informed and support the local businesses through advertising and for community event support. Pick up a new NWMBA directory for holiday shopping ideas - get one at a local business or call 612-703-9609. NWMBA has been serving the community since 1931. NWMBA and its members are proud to support community-wide events like Holiday on 44th that promote a thriving economic community and vital businesses in our community. Thank you for shopping locally for your gifts this holiday season!
