As we all look for ways to save money and "go green," one of our own local businesses is taking the lead in the green certification program for new homes and remodeling called MN GreenStar. Green building is at the core of Otogawa-Anschel's principles. Over the last three years, Michael Anschel has been helping to lead the charge by spearheading the development of MN GreenStar, the premier green certification program for new homes and remodeling. What is exciting about this certification process is that now you can have a certified green kitchen, bath, basement or whole house.
This spring, the fourth MN GreenStar remodel will be open to the public during the Minneapolis/St. Paul Home Tour. You can see photos of these and other projects that have green attributes at www.otogawa-anschel.com. Contact them at info@otogawa-anschel.com or 612-789-7070.
Need a new look for spring? Just around the corner at 41st and Lyndale you will find a great new neighborhood barbershop. Sharp Cuts is right upstairs of the old Doc's Gym. Sharp Cuts is a full service salon that has a friendly, comfortable atmosphere. So whether you need a haircut, a shave or a little eyebrow grooming, Sharp Cuts is the place for you or your kid! They are open Mon.-Fri. 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sat. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Stop in or call 612-529-0075 for an appointment.
Increased funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services will assist North Point Health & Wellness Center to continue to provide services for low income and uninsured patients. The stimulus funding will be used to increase staffing by four, including medical assistants, a health care registration clerk and nurse practitioners. Funding is for a two-year period. The center anticipates an increase in the need for these services due to the economic downturn. In addition, during the next two years, Stratis Health will work with NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center and other Minnesota clinics to improve cultural competency and increase awareness of the national Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) standards. CLAS standards, developed by
the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, provide policy and practice guidelines for health care systems to assist in improving quality of care for culturally diverse populations.
