How often do you get a pizza named after you? Papa’s Pizza and Pasta, 42nd and Thomas, named a pizza after Camden activist Ann Kaari. Kris Brogan says, “Ann was Papa’s greatest supporter when we were trying to get open (which took two years!). She supported us in the community, she came to the Planning Commission hearing, she “talked-up” the business whenever and wherever she could, and once we were open she was there and bringing in many of her friends and family. She was the one person I could call on when things got really bad and I needed someone’s ear. After we opened she requested that Papa’s bring pizza to a meeting. Mick (Papa) put together a special pizza that used garlic butter, chicken and spinach. Ann loved it. When I told Mick about her response he said that he would name it the “Ann Kaari” because of her love of the pie and her unending support. Ann is a dedicated community leader who believes in our business. We will always be grateful to her for her contribution to the community, to the City of Minneapolis, and to Papa’s.”
