Fifth annual Harvest Fest and third annual Open Streets combine again on Lowry Avenue
09/01/2014
series of six Open
Streets Minneapolis events this summer continues with the sixth event on Lowry
Avenue on Saturday, September 20. This day-long event will create a safe,
car-free environment to allow people to play, be physically active and take
part in a wide range of related activities.
This Open Streets event
combines with the annual Harvest Fest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Lowry Avenue
between Emerson and Vincent. The free event, which is open to everyone, was
organized to give people the opportunity to safely enjoy biking, walking,
skating, playing and using wheelchairs on their neighborhood street without the
presence of motorized traffic. For a complete listing of all events and their
times and locations, go to openstreetsmpls.com.

Along the mile-long stretch of Lowry Avenue, there will be four
stages, each with live music from the community, activities for all ages,
healthy cooking and living demonstrations, a beer garden, food galore, art
demonstrations, health screenings and many more activities.
The first Open Streets
Minneapolis event was in 2011 on Lyndale Avenue South and drew more than 5,000
participants. The number of events has grown each year since then. Tens of
thousands of pedestrians, bicyclists, skateboarders and wheelchair users participate
in Open Streets throughout the year.
Open Streets
Minneapolis has a number of financial and in-kind sponsors, including the City
of Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition, the Center for Prevention at
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Pohlad Family Foundation, North
Memorial Health Care, Metro Transit, 89.3 The Current, car2go Minneapolis and
Peace Coffee.
