CenterPoint Energy redlining Camden neighborhoods?
By: Donna Seline 04/01/2008
Around Christmas some of my neighbors received a call from CenterPoint Energy to come and inspect their inside gas meters. They made appointments but either didn’t show up or called and cancelled, promising to reschedule. When I called to find out why no one showed up, I was told “Oh, that’s North Minneapolis.” Then she said they pulled their people that week because there were some “things going on that became a safety issue for [their] people.” But the company was supposed to call and reschedule and explain why they didn’t show up. She said she couldn’t divulge what was going on.
I made some inquiries with the city and was told to contact the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) and file a written complaint, which I did. But first, I called CenterPoint to reschedule, just to give them a fair chance. They rescheduled, and they didn’t show up again. When I called back I was told they couldn’t have made an appointment because they weren’t making appointments in certain zip codes. That’s when I mailed the complaint form to the PUC.
This week [March 19] I’m hearing from neighbors that they’re getting called to reschedule their meter inspection, so obviously the complaint process worked.
If you were previously contacted by CenterPoint and they didn’t show up or reschedule, call the PUC at 651-298-0406, or log on to www.puc.state.mn.us and download a complaint form, fill it out and send it in. While they may be starting to come into Victory neighborhood again, they might not be quick to return to some of our other neighborhoods. They are a public utility — we pay for their services —make them do their jobs!
