Urging home ownership
By: Jerry Johnson 04/01/2006
I purchased my home in 1999 because permanent ownership is more desirable than renting. In six years I’ve become disillusioned with my neighborhood. I invested in my home to improve its appearance. My neighborhood has now become a rental community. People are buying homes and renting them out through creative financing schemes. I’m surrounded by homes in foreclose or eviction - now possible rental properties. A family next door is moving out because of a creative-finance scheme that they fell prey to. No color discriminates more than “green.” I want to see permanent families and not just temporary housing. This practice of buying to rent has got to stop and be investigated. It’s ruining our community.
