Voting isn’t enough
By: Frank Brown 04/01/2013
I lost my right to vote for 10 years because of a mistake I made. When I got my right to vote back I realized that voting is not enough. Voting for candidates that other people selected for me didn’t give me much say in the process. Believe me, elected officials notice who gets involved in grassroots politics. I learned not to wait til the election to make my voice heard. I have the opportunity to choose our next City Council person and Mayor by going to my neighborhood caucus, and then supporting my choice through the campaign to make sure they are elected. I’ve done this since 2010 and have found that elected officials listen to my concerns because of my participation. I’ve heard others say their votes don’t count, well my vote counts even more cause I get involved in the process early. I have seen change in policies because of my participation. I didn’t know anyone when I got started.
Join me and get in on the ground floor, it really not that hard. They’ve been doing it since the founding of this country. Caucuses for the Democratic Farmer Labor Party are coming up on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. Come join your neighbors and truly determine your future.
