    Fencing is a sport that requires high skill and concentration. The easiest description: “it’s the sport of fighting with swords, especially foils, sabers and épées.” You must play by a set of rules while trying to score points against an opponent.

    On October 31, University of Minnesota tutors and volunteers took a group of 25 Northside Hmong refugee youth out trick-or-treating.

 

    The tradition of taking Hmong refugee kids out trick-or-treating started in 2005. A group of Hmong refugees had just arrived in the U.S from the Wat Tham Krabok refugee camp. One day they reported hearing the strangest story: that one day out of the year, they could walk up to someone’s house, mumble some noises, and the person would throw candy at them.

    On October 21 the Minnesota Reading Corps sponsored an event at Jenny Lind Elementary. Volunteers came to read to the kids in some of the classrooms for one-half hour that morning. They each read a story to the students, and then told something about themselves and their involvement in our community.

      Sign up for winter sports at Webber, Creekview and Folwell Parks!

    Fundamental basketball:  Boys and girls, ages 6-8, cost $20. 

    Open basketball: Ages 11 and under to 18 and under. 16U and 18U at Creekview only. Cost $35.

    Girls’ basketball: Ages 11U, 13U, 16U and 18U. Cost $35.

    Wrestling: Ages 8-14. At Webber Park only. Cost $20.

Volunteer coaching opportunities

    Be a part of the Camden sports family and help our community youth learn a sport and strive to be their best. Days and times vary per sport and age group. Winter sports include wrestling, basketball and hockey. These are volunteer coaching positions. Contact the Webber, Folwell or Creekview park directors for more info. Adults must pass a background check and complete the coaches’ certification process.

Webber Park winter fun

     Parent & Tot Play Time. Parents, bring your preschool-age children to take part in play activities with other children. Parents will supervise while children play with toys, games and balls. For ages 6 months to 6 years. Runs every Tuesday and Thursday, from January 13 through March 26, 10:30 a.m. to noon.

  Webber Park Game Night. Come check out Game Night at Webber Park. Each night play a variety of video games on the big screen. Come show off your video game skills, play with friends or take on staff in weekly tournaments. Every Wednesday from 6:15-8:30 p.m. Free, for ages 10-16.
